A Georgian mourning ring dated 1776!!

Yes! It's hard to believe, but this ring was crafted in England the very same year THE United States of America was founded!! Making this a truly rare heirloom.

Finely composed around an oval glazed plaque delicately painted with the classical urn and weeping willow—touching symbols of remembrance. The miniature is framed by a tight halo of deep pink‑red faceted Garnets in individual closed collets, while the slim shank is enriched with engraving, milgrain detail and a black enamel cartouche.

Elegant and intimate in scale, the rich Garnet halo adds a glowing border to the serene central scene. The 18ct Gold mount, decorative shoulders and enamelled band complete a beautifully preserved late 18th‑century jewel with enduring sentiment and charm.

MEASUREMENTS: Head measures 12.5mm.
Band is 2.5mm wide.
23 x Garnets measure approx. 1.3mm in diameter, weighing approx. 0.20ct combined.
WEIGHT:

MATERIALS: Tests as 18ct Gold, Garnet (0.20ct)

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

VERY GOOD: The Garnet halo is securely set with light facet wear commensurate with age and no missing stones observed. The shank and setting show light surface wear with some loss to the black enamel around the band and visible solder seams at the shoulders; the glazed central plaque has a small chip/wear at the lower edge. Overall well preserved and ready to wear.
